Precautions for storage and transportation of potassium hydroxide

Potassium hydroxide, also known as caustic soda, is an important industrial product with a wide range of uses. It is a strong base that does not corrode severely at room temperature, but severely corrodes many metals under high temperature and stress. Steel can be used in dilute sodium hydroxide solution at room temperature, but as the temperature or concentration increases, steel will corrode faster. Studying the corrosion of different alloys in sodium hydroxide solution is of great significance to the selection of materials.

Material selection basis: non-corrosive at room temperature, but will cause severe corrosion to many metals under high temperature and stress. The equipment and pipeline materials of different concentrations of sodium hydroxide solution at different temperatures are different, and the concentration of sodium hydroxide solution is 0-30%. If the temperature is lower than 50℃, equipment and pipes made of better materials are usually corrosion resistant; and 0%-30% sodium hydroxide solution at 50-100℃ has good corrosion resistance to equipment and pipes made of class II materials °C.

1. Transportation considerations: In the process of railway transportation, ladle can be transported by gondola. When shipping, the packaging should be complete and the loading should be safe. During transportation, keep the container from leaking, collapsing, falling or being damaged. It is strictly prohibited to mix with flammable materials or combustibles, acids and edible chemicals. Transportation vehicles should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment during transportation;

2. Precautions for storage: Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The humidity in the warehouse should not exceed 85%. The packaging needs to be sealed and moisture-proof. It should be stored separately from combustible materials and acids and must not be mixed. The storage area should be equipped with appropriate materials to prevent leakage;

3. Packaging method: The solid can be sealed in a 0.5mm thick steel drum. The net weight of each barrel of potassium hydroxide shall not exceed 100kg; plastic bag or double-layer kraft paper bag outside full mouth or middle mouth steel drum; screw glass bottle, tin glass bottle, plastic bottle or ordinary wooden box outside the metal drum (tank); screw thread Glass bottles, plastic bottles or tinned steel drums (cans) are covered with bottom grid boxes, fiberboard boxes or plywood boxes; outside tinned steel drums (cans), metal drums (cans), plastic bottles or metal hose corrugated boxes.
